OUR GOAL

The goal of the Liberty Hill Afterschool Enrichment Program is to nurture the whole child while focusing on improving reading and math skills for students in grades K4 through eighth that reside in the Liberty Hill and adjacent communities.  We will accomplish our goal by creating a program that goes back to basics and reinforces the skills and training the students receive during the regular school day.  We believe this approach will best serve the students, the parents and the teachers associated with the program.

Developed By...

The Liberty Hill Afterschool Enrichment Program was developed as an initiative to assist the Charleston County School District with its desire to eradicate illiteracy among the students of Charleston County.

The Methodology...

The Liberty Hill Afterschool Enrichment Program (LHAEP) will operate Monday through Thursday from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.  We will provide transportation from Hursey Elementary to the Felix Pinckney Community Center. During the three-hour period each afternoon, students will be given the instruction and guidance needed to improve their reading skills.  A healthy snack will also be provided.

The Feedback...

Each student's reading level will be documented at the beginning of the program and assessed periodically throughout the program and presented to the parents along with recommendations for parental involvement to ensure that each student is making the expected improvements. The Liberty Hill Afterschool Enrichment Program (LHAEP) is committed to helping bridge the gap between the teachers and the parents.

Our Leadership...

The Liberty Hill Afterschool Enrichment Program (LHAEP) will be headed up by an Executive Director.  The Executive Director will be responsible for ensuring that each student is given the time and attention necessary to improve their reading skills.  He/She will accomplish this by identifying and securing student volunteers from our neighboring colleges and universities.  We will also seek the help of former and current educators from the surrounding communities as well.  The expected outcome is to maintain an appropriate student teacher ratio.

Instructional & Materials Program...

The Liberty Hill Afterschool Enrichment Program (LHAEP) will utilize the same materials and programs that are being utilize at Hursey Elementary School.  The purpose is to reinforce those efforts being taught at the school and not to give the students additional methodology thereby confusing the student and the parent.

Cost & Management of the Program...

There will be no cost to the students attending The Liberty Hill Afterschool Enrichment Program (LHAEP); however, the Education Endowment chair will work to secure funds to manage the program from donors, various education grants and donations from our local sponsors and supporters.

The center is open Monday-Thursday from 2:00PM -6:00PM.
